The rules that decide whether you keep the account

Most funded accounts are lost to rule mechanics, not to bad strategies. Understand these two before comparing prices.

Consistency rules

A consistency rule says your single biggest profitable day cannot exceed a set share of your total profit. Hit the target with one home-run trade and the payout can be refused or deferred until you trade more evenly.

Worked example

Suppose a firm caps one day at 50% of total profit. You make $6,000 on one trade and $4,000 over the rest of the month. That day is 60% of profit, so the payout is held until the balance shifts.

Drawdown models

Anything we have not re-verified is marked 'Not specified' rather than estimated.

What is the difference between a futures prop firm and a forex/CFD prop firm?+

Futures firms give you access to exchange-traded futures contracts, usually via futures-specific platforms. Forex/CFD firms give you contracts for difference on currencies and other instruments. The instruments, the platforms and often the regulatory position differ, so choose the market first and the firm second. Every firm on this page is labelled with its market.

What is a consistency rule?+

A consistency rule caps how much of your total profit can come from a single day or a single trade. If you hit a profit target with one outsized winner, a firm with a consistency rule can refuse or delay the payout. Whether a firm applies one, and at what threshold, must be read on that firm's current rules page.

What is the difference between static, end-of-day and intraday trailing drawdown?+

Static drawdown is set once at account start and never moves. End-of-day trailing recalculates from your daily closing balance. Intraday trailing follows your highest unrealised equity tick by tick and is the strictest, because a winning trade that retraces can still breach it. Confirm which model applies before buying an account.

Which drawdown model should a beginner choose?+

Beginners generally cope better with static or end-of-day models, because an intraday trailing limit punishes normal give-back on a winning trade. This is a general principle, not a claim about any specific firm's current terms.

Is a one-step, two-step or instant-funding route better?+

One-step routes are faster to clear but usually carry tighter daily rules. Two-step routes take longer with generally more room. Instant funding skips the evaluation for a higher entry cost and often adds payout conditions. There is no universally best route — match it to how frequently you trade and how much variance your strategy has.

Do prop firms fund you with real capital?+

Most retail prop programmes are simulated-funded: you trade a simulated account under real rules and the firm pays your share of the simulated performance. Read each firm's contract to see exactly what you are being offered.

How many prop firm accounts should I run?+

Start with one. Multiple accounts multiply your fees and your rule surface before they multiply your income, and each firm sets its own limit on concurrent accounts.

What happens if I break a rule?+

The account is typically closed. Reputable firms tell you which rule was breached and often offer a discounted retry. Check the breach and retry policy before you buy, not after.

Do I pay tax on prop firm payouts?+

In most jurisdictions payouts are taxable income. Speak to a qualified local accountant — nothing on this page is tax advice.
